Music at Crabtree Farm
Music Intent Vision
At Crabtree Farm, we aim to give our children the musical skills and knowledge to express themselves and live music experiences to inspire them.
Music Curriculum at Crabtree Farm
At Crabtree Farm Music is taught by our specialist music teacher, Mr Hull. We support our teaching of the National Curriculum for Music, through the use of the Music Express scheme of work and some specifically written schemes of work by Mr Hull. The Music Skills Progression document details what the children learn in each year group and how they develop their skills and knowledge during their time in primary school. Have a look to see what your child is learning in music!

Our Learning in Music
Here at Crabtree Farm, we provide opportunities for children to extend their experiences and exceed the National Curriculum expectations. All children in Year 4 learn to play the acoustic guitar as part of their curriculum lessons. When they move into Year 5, children can join area band and continue to learn the acoustic guitar. Children can also join an acoustic guitar group on Friday lunchtimes. Children in Years 3 and 4 can join a descant recorder group on Thursday or Friday playtimes. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 can join our school choir on Thursday lunchtimes. Children in Years 5 and 6 can join an electric guitar group on Friday mornings.
In September, 8 of our year 5 children went to Music Camp at Ilam Hall in the Peak District. They built on the knowledge they had gained on the guitar in year 4, learned to read music notation and played as part of an orchestra with other schools and instruments. They even got to go orienteering and take part in a night walk in the Peak District before having a hot chocolate and going to bed. They have now joined our area band after school club and are continuing to progress with their guitar playing. Well done to all involved!
