Music at Crabtree Farm
Music Intent Vision
At Crabtree Farm, we aim to give our children the musical skills and knowledge to express themselves and live music experiences to inspire them.
Music Curriculum at Crabtree Farm
At Crabtree Farm, music is taught by our specialist music teacher, Mr Hather. We support our teaching of the national curriculum for music, through the use of the Primary Planning scheme of work from the 'PPA Cover' company. In year 4, children are taught to play the guitar by members of staff from the Nottingham Music Service. The music skills progression document details what the children learn in each year group and how they develop their skills and knowledge during their time in primary school. Our Learning in Music
Here at Crabtree Farm, we provide opportunities for children to extend their experiences and exceed the national curriculum expectations. All children in year 4 learn to play the acoustic guitar as part of their curriculum lessons. When they move into year 5, children can join area band and continue to learn the acoustic guitar. These children can also join an acoustic guitar group on Thursday mornings working towards their grade 1 or grade 2. Children in years 4, 5 and 6 can join our school choir on Wednesday lunchtimes.
Eight of our year 5 children represented Crabtree beautifully at music camp in September. Whilst they were there, the children took part in guitar lessons, learned to read sheet music, played as part of a monster band with children from other schools playing different instruments and explored the countryside in the Peak District. All of the children gained lots of new musical skills and confidence and they are now ready to join our after school club, area band, where they can develop their skills even more.
